MINA LIM - DAVID HOCKNEY

David Hockney

I choose David Hockney. He is famous British painter, stage designer, and photographer. He influenced by Cubism and used multi perspectives. He also used collage skill for editing the photos. He took several pictures of same place of subject and pasted them into the one whole picture. The most impressive thing was that the way to rearrange of each different photos was very unique, but the theme of photos was very ordinary such as his mom, park, river, and so on. So I decided to take picture of my UNM life. I wanted to view my ordinary life in different perspective through the process of taking and editing photos.

Here is the official site of David Hockey.

  1. Very cool, i really enjoy how some of your photos seem very minimal but in all actuality are very complex with the layers and angles of separate photos of the same things. This must have taken quite a bit of time and a ton of photos. It translates well into your work. I especially like the photos in which you added an element of self portrait such as seeing you in the mirror or your purse or even your actual self portrait in multiple outfits. It added to your project making the photos less ambiguous and more relatable. It allowed the viewer an insight into your life and it brought a human characteristic into play with very inanimate things.

  2. I love your photographs so much and am very impressed with the time you took to edit them for this class. I have always loved collage-like things such as this. You did a fantastic job spicing these photos together in Photoshop. I like that your photos don't always match up perfectly and some parts are missing. It almost looks as if you took each picture and taped them to the wall and took another picture of the whole thing. Your exposures are prefect as is your subject matter. I love your sense of humor in the first two where we see your reflection in the mirror as well as your computer in the middle of editing your photos. Fantastic job! Keep up the great work!
