Tessa Flores

For my portrait assignment I wanted to try to capture the reactions of people after they were scared or startled. To do this I set up a black backdrop and had someone wearing a evil clown halloween mask hiding behind it. We worked out a signal so he would know when to jump out and scare them. Most of the people though weren't too scared; a lot of them just laughed. I then darkened the background so the only thing showing in the picture would be their face because their expressions were the focus of this project.

  2. I really love the concept of these pictures and the process you used to get them. I also feel like the way they're edited to focus entirely on the emotion on the face really mirrors the way fear actually is - when you're afraid, that's usually all you can see and think about. And like we all said over and over again in class, the last image is extremely powerful and expresses your concept the best. You did such a great job!

  3. I think that your theme is very impressive. Photos have very strong images. My favorite picture is last one. I can feel scare and fear on his face. Most of all, I was really impressed by the pictures which people smile because I can understand their mind after scared.

  4. I really like the idea behind your photos, because it captured people's natural reactions and none of them look staged. I think it is very interesting how you chose to black out everything else except the subject's faces. It really brings out what your assignment is about. At first I wasn't sure what your theme was since everyone's reactions are very different, but once you explained it it was more clear. That's the best thing about photography, each picture can have a different meaning to everyone who looks at it. They are really good pictures, and you did a great job!

  5. I love the idea behind your photos. It makes for very experimental as well as entertaining work. I love how you were able to capture that moment of fear in your last photo. To improve your work I would work more on the lighting and have the background bleed less into the model's face. I cannot wait to see what your next photos will look like. As a photographer I think this is a very valuable quality. What will you do next and how will you improve? I look forward to your artist's project. Great photos!
