Zane Rader

The title of my work is 'Lines of Expression'. The idea for this project came from two experiences I had this summer. My friend Thomas, who is black, and I ran into two racists during summer break and it got me thinking about the mindset that these people must have. I am baffled by how someone can think that just because the pigment of a person's skin determines whether they are as good as you or beneath you as a human being. I wanted to demonstrate the identical similarities that we all share with our expressions of different emotions that we experience on a daily basis.

  1. I really admire your taking on this topic and how innovatively awesome you chose to pursue it. The images are actually 16 and really good ones at that. The dramatic black and white colors not only on the background but clothing and even on the faces was very good. I really like the way you show the humaness in each person and this work makes me really redefine my perception on this topic.

    1. I think that this was an epic start for a possibly further pursuit maybe. The pictures could have been a little more varied for my preference but this might have been a change in the feel of the piece. The reason I feel this was because I thought your piece was not about race but about "vice versa" if you know what I mean. The theme of race I feel is very cultural but then again in reference to your story the superficialness of the people within it representative of your piece.

    1. I think you take wonderful photographs, and the idea behind these pictures is pretty awesome. I think you did a great job editing them to line up perfectly, and you definitely chose a great topic for the assignment. I like that it portrays race, and that how we are all the same despite the color of our skin. When you said you only took a few minutes taking these pictures, I was shocked because it looks like this would much longer. All of your pictures have great lighting and the shadows look amazing. Great job!

  3. Not only is the topic of your photos extremely important and interesting but the way you chose to execute them is amazing. What you did is something I never would have thought of and it's extremely successful. The fact that you did them in black and white only adds to the rawness of the emotions and your photos definitely portray what you were trying to get across to the viewers. Great job :)

  4. Amazing stuff and really great execution. The lines between the two faces are matching very well, which i assume was a challenge. The idea of the project is a really good one considering that racism is still very real. Your pictures feel very human and share so much commonality that it makes the two subjects seem almost related or brothers of sorts. This work stands out to me as something i could very well find in a gallery. i am amazed at how the two photos are so close... you had to have taken many shots to get it right.
